Summer 2017 Update – Site Transfer

First, and most important, I will be transferring to a new hosting service over the next few days. This should be a smooth transition but things can go wrong, and it’s possible my site may go down for a while. Or be up and down. Or even go down for a couple days. Grab your towel and don’t panic. I’m not leaving the Internet, I’m just trying to sort out technical issues. Hopefully, things will go smooth as silk and you’ll be none the wiser. But if there’s a catastrophic meltdown, just chill. It’ll be back up eventually.

In a previous update, I’d mentioned getting more eBooks up. I’m working on a whole new eBook system that should make for super easy downloading and reduce the hit on my bandwidth, but I’m not rolling out anything new until the site transfer happens and I’m sure my technical glitches are ironed out.

Rough Trade has gone well. I’m hoping to post the third episode of Catalyst before the end of the month. I was working on my entry for the NCIS Big Bang in tandem with Rough Trade, and that story will hit my site sometime in October. I’m super jazzed about both stories. Keira and I talked about id fic a couple times on her podcast, and the Big Bang story might be all Jilly-id. I’m a terrible tease, but you’re going to have to wait until October to see what my id looks like.

I’ve really enjoyed working in the episode format this month. The extra practice was great and has fired up my drive to work on several of the series I have in process.

The Wild Hare Project is out of beta and we’re looking at new author applications slowly. If you think it might be a fit for you, drop by and submit an application. Or, if you have questions about what it is and if it’s right for you, check out the about page. If that doesn’t answer your questions, drop us an email through the contact form.

Speaking of contact forms… My site’s spam control got a little Draconian and spammed a bunch of stuff sent through my contact form and a bunch of comments. I’ve fished them all out and will try to get back to everyone who needs a response after my site migration is done.

I am feeling somewhat better from the hives fiasco that was the spring, but it’s all due to the modern marvel that is drugs. So, still trying to sort out why I’m covered in hives if I don’t take a buttload of pills. (A figurative buttload. Though I do sometimes feel like I’m getting a whole 126 gallons.)

I’ve been bemoaning the lack of good TV in the summer and haven’t stumbled on anything I want to marathon. It’s tragic. And, yes, I saw the first episode of Midnight Texas. I’m reserving judgment for now.

In other news, along with some other writers, I launched a Facebook page called The Daily Something. It’s tips & tricks, grammar, punctuation, matters of style, with the occasional rant thrown in for spiciness. For writers, by writers with our kind of miniony, take-over-the-world slant. Maybe. Kind of. Don’t believe everything you think. Seriously, drop by and check it out. You’re always welcome to send questions you’d like answered via the message button on the page. Since it’s a page, you can follow it without friending me or crossing the streams between fandom and real life. It is marked 17+ because we swear a lot and I don’t need angry mothers yelling at me for saying cunt on a page their 14-year-old darling can read.

Until next time, hope you all have a great summer. Or for those of you south of the equator, may your winter be mild.

Buckaroo, The White House wants to know is everything ok with the alien space craft from Planet 10 or should we just go ahead and destroy Russia?

*Feel free to take one if you forgot yours.

  1. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 I’ll just have to haunt your page a lot more!!

And btw I saw Buckaroo Banzai MANY years ago… what was the reply? -snigger-

    • Yes on one, no one two. But the funny was Mission Control not knowing which one meant destroy Russia.

  2. Thanks for the update, sweetie. You’re a terrible tease, but I’m sure I can actually survive until October. Probably. 😉

  3. Thanks for saving me from panic Jilly. Hope all goes well with the move. I think Catalyst is ‘pretty damn good’ which is my 14yo nephew’s way of saying he likes something 🙂 Sending you good vibes, Hxx

  4. Thanks for letting us know, I may have panicked a little if the site was down when I came by for my Vicious fix.

  5. Thanks for the info. Especially about the spam filter; I had a couple of comments not appear but just assumed it was a fault on my end!

Deepest sympathy about the hives! I got that once as apparently the allergy to penicillin my grandma had which Mum never mentioned can a) skip a generation & b) lurk about while you take the drug occasionally with no probs till you’re in your 40s and then, boom!

    Best wishes from Lincolnshire.

  6. Appreciate the warnings. Although with how my internet has been acting lately I would have blamed my connection and just kept trying til I went nuts.

  7. Fingers crossed for a smooth transition, and yes our winter has been mild, more than actually, with many days in July around 70F.

  8. May all your transfers be painless, and thanks for your generous sharing.

  9. Very much appreciate the warning, as I check in almost daily to see if anything new has been posted. I promise not to panic. Followed you over here from AO3, and did actually panic when you pulled out of that site, but thankfully Google knew where to find this site. Once I checked out all the stories, I saw that you follow Lady Ra, who is one of my favorite authors. I have all of her stories saved from every site on which she ever posted. I even read her stories when I don’t follow the shows upon which they are based, simply because her writing is so good. That happened with your stories as well. Even when I am not familiar with the characters, you bring them to life and I can relate to them.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into your stories and for sharing them with us.

  10. yay! the changeover went smoothly!

  11. Hey J, I’ve not stuck my head in with comments before (lurk-a-lot) but re stuff to watch, for a change of pace that I am pretty sure you would enjoy, if you have netflix access try ‘Miss Phryne Fisher’s Murder Mysteries’. Australian series based on Kerry Greenwood’s book series about a female Saint version set in late 1920’s. She is fun.

  12. Is it OK to play in your universe of Dragons? I’ve had a few thoughts poke my brain, either Hawaii Five-0 or Fast and Furious. Maybe both in one story!

    • Sorry for the long delay. I haven’t even looked at feedback on my site since summer. Yes, the universe is open. Permissions are explained on the Emergence page. If you have questions or need more info, let me know.

      • Thanks dear. I haven’t actually begun anything yet. My dad died not long after I posed this question, and my mind is rather in chaos at the moment. Emergence is one of the most amazing stories I’ve ever read, and I do plan on playing in the sandbox. Thanks for building it!

        • I’m so sorry for your loss. I know that doesn’t ever get better, but I hope the chaos diminishes. Take care.

  13. Please reply here, my email is being wonky.

  14. May I suggest Wynonna Erp for a marathon? Season 1 is on Netflix. I showed up in my recs on a day I had knitting project I had to finish and I really enjoyed it.

  15. Thank you for the update. It sounds like you have been super busy. I am really looking forward to reading your work, whenever, it is always a delight.

I have a question, and I apologize if it’s inconvenient. I am curious. I think that when you wrote Fracture, there were two other stories in that Rough Trade. I mostly remember the one with Ronon. I was wondering if they will be posted on this site, if they are somewhere in the RT forum, or were part of a different challenge. I looked, but I can’t remember the names so my search was fruitless. I apologize for bothering you, I completely understand that you have a lot on your plate not even counting RL.

Thank you again for your update and also for doing so much to help other writers. I have always wanted to write, but I am really afraid of anyone reading my stuff. Looking at things like the Wild Hare Project and the Daily Something is encouraging and inspiring to me.

    • Sorry for the delay. Move prep is making me insane.

There were two others with Fracture: Primus and Beautiful Decline. Neither is available anywhere. Primus was the one with Ronon. I’ll be posting it when I’m ready to commence with working on the rest of the series.

  16. How’s your transfer going? Haven’t heard anything new in a while so I hope everything is okay.

    • The site transfer went off without a hitch, so that was good. But I’m moving and it’s put a lot of things on hold. I’ll be in my new home the first week of November and then the unpacking will commence. Ugh.

  17. The Daily Something! I love the Cat Who… reference!

Also, I’m so happy I found your writings again, as I went looking for Emergence in my AO3 bookmarks and almost had a heart attack when it was gone. I’m off to re-read now!

  18. I heard a mention of your story Catalyst on a Keira’s World podcast recently, but couldn’t find the actual story. This post seems to be the only mention of it. Is it listed under a different title? Or is it just something still in beta?

no matter where you go, there you are...
