One Million Words

It’s my birthday, and in a very Hobbity fashion, I’m giving a gift…

When I set the goal for 2020 of posting one of my past completed works to my site every month, I chose Demons to post for my birthday month. Stick Around and Demons are some of my favorites of my own works, and I’m pleased to be able to post this today. I’m not planning additional stories in this universe but, if I get inspired, I wouldn’t be sad to spend more time here.

What I didn’t know when I was doing my post planning was that Demons would be the story that pushed me over one million words of completed works posted to this site. I thought it would be Unobstructed Views, but when I posted Unobstructed Views at the end of December, it put me at 994,310 (yes, I huffed). Demons is nearly 73,000, so I’m well into the 1M territory! (My word counts are only what’s complete on this site and do not include things posted exclusively to the Wild Hare Project or on the Evil Author Day community on Dreamwidth.)

Demons is the 3rd longest story on the site at this time and is the 60th completed work.

Something I’d meant to share in my 2019 wrap up, but totally spaced on, is some amazing art done by Christy Vandiver based on the prologue from Emergence. She’s got mad skills, folks, and I was completely blown away. Please drop by Art Station and check it out!

It will be posted within an hour of this post going out, so I hope you enjoy Demons. Happy Birthday, everyone! 😉

** Minor housekeeping note at the bottom of the post.

P.S. One minor housekeeping note: I’ve had cause to regret sharing my goals for 2020 as I’ve received dozens of questions about what I’ll be posting and when. I’d ask that if you have the urge to ask a question in that vein, please refrain. I’ve never been willing to commit to a specific publishing schedule for my fanfic, much less share that publicly, and I’ll set the goal aside before I let myself get stressed out over my hobby. Thank you.

  11. Happy birthday, and congratulations on achieving one million words posted to this site! I’m fairly sure I’ve read every one of those words at least once and am eternally grateful that you choose to share them. I was excited to read Demons so I clicked on the option for stories by title and found it wasn’t listed. I then found multiple other ways to bring it up using various links you posted. I’m trying to tell myself it’s after 2am and that I should wait until tomorrow to start reading it, but in the mean time I wanted to drop you a note of thanks for making it available. I hope 2020 will be a wonderful, exciting, and productive year for you in whatever field or endeavor you choose.

  12. Happy Birthday!! Thank you for our gift. Wishing you a fabulous 2020 full of love, joy and passion. XX

  24. Hi,

So my last comment was lost in the deep spaces of the internet.

I‘m a bit frustrated now (just a tiny wee little bit) but I shall try it again.

I don’t care when or what you post – I am just incredibly grateful that you do and that you share your words and the story you wish to tell with us.

No matter my mood – when you (or the fellow writers close to you) post something you brighten up my day! I‘m getting excited to read, to be awed and to feel. To laugh, to cry, to smile, to be happy – a rollercoaster of emotions put into words that are gobbled up as fast as such a hungry little reader (that sometimes tries to write) – in other words: me – can.
Only to be read again and again and again.

You write so real, that I can hear the original voices in my head doing whatever you want them to – and boy! You keep the OTPs and fandoms alive and warm my heart.

I will try and leave more reviews – not just for you – for all the great works and I will try to do better. To let you all know how much I appreciate your words.

I wish you a very happy birthday and may all your dreams come true!

    Greetings from Germany
    Prof. Rum

  25. Happy birthday! I hope it’s filled with your favorite things.

  26. A very happy birthday to you!

  27. The happiest of happy birthdays to you! A MILLION words is such a huge number I can’t even fathom it. It’s an incredible accomplishment. And it’s also a measure of how much – so, SO much! – you’ve given your readers. I’ve found joy and relief and excitement and mega satisfaction in your writing over the years; thank you so much for that. So here’s to a wonderful new year of your life, full of all the good things you’ve brought to other people. Cheers!

  28. Happy birthday!

  29. Happy birthday and congrats!

  30. Happy Birth Day, Jilly!!! Thank you for the presents.

  31. Happy Birthday!

  32. Happy birthday! May letters give you words and the page always turns.

  33. Super happy birthday! Congratulations! Good start to 2020.

  34. Happy Birthday and thanks for all the stories you’ve written.

  35. Happy birthday! I have two friends who share it with you, and my own birthday is on Monday.

  36. OMG. I cannot wait to read this!!! I thought that it was done, but glad to see that it’s not and I’m just so grateful that you’re posting anything! Honestly I thought you were going to be posting at the end of the month, if only because posting a story every month is insane and a crap ton of work, even if you only do post this for the rest of the year, which i quite sincerely hope you post at least one other work, in whatever fandom it may be, because you’re one of all time favorite fanfic writers and I just love all your stuff! Sorry if it’s a bit rambley, but I just go so excited!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I really hope that this year will be a much better year than the last and I wish you all the good tidings and joy this year and many more.
So in essence, thank you for posting this and thank you again for all the works that you may post in the future. And if I may say, I cannot wait for evil author’s day… as that is pretty epic and you’re such a fantastic writer that I just… there are no words to describe my admiration for you, although I certainly did my best, and the only things that I can say is “Aja, aja fighting!” (This is a common phrase used by Korean people to encourage others in whatever they do, hence why I thought it was appropriate)
    THANK YOU!

  37. Happy birthday! Thank you for sharing!

  38. Happy birthday!

  39. Congratulations!!! That must feel wonderful, what a great thing, to meet your goal. Happy Birthday, I hope this year is a fabulous one for you! (from one January baby to another !) I’m off to read Demons, so thank you for my OWN birthday present! xxx

  40. Happy B-day, Jilly. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. Your stories are amazing and inspiring and I’m glad I have the chance to read them. You and Keira made me want to write again and that is something I didn’t think would happen. Best wishes…

  41. While I am definitely not asking about what you are posting next or when just know that I am looking forward to whatever it is.
Also that the Emergence art is spectacular and that book is one of my absolute favorites of all time.

  42. Happy Birthday and thank you for your very Hobbity way.

  43. Happy Birthday!

Thanks for all your words. Your stories make a difficult day much better!

  44. Happy birthday and thanks for demons, it was great.

  45. Carla aka Silverbowl2_0

Congratulations on 1M words and happy birthday! Mine was yesterday so your Hobbity gift feels extra special <3

  46. Hell yes, I’ve been waiting impatiently for the reappearance of Demons. I’d also not be adverse to more stories in that universe. Congrats on passing the 1 million mark!

  47. Happy birthday!!

  48. Sonia Costoya Rodriguez

One Million thanks for your awsome work!!!
And on the subject of when and what you post… That’s your choice and no one bisnes!! I?m always happy to read your stories at your convenience.

  49. Happy Birthday! I wish you all the best good health and and good fortune for the upcoming year.

  50. Happy birthday, and congrats on the million words! And awesome fanart! 😀

  51. Congratulations on the one million words! That is quite an accomplishment. Your lifetime total estimate on the podcast was impressive also.

  52. Belated Happy Birthday and congratulations on reaching the 1,000,000 words mark.

Thanks for sharing the stories with us and for continuing to do so.

    Marianne

  53. Very well done, Jilly. That’s such an achievement. You know how much your writing means, not just to me but to your readers world-wide and it is wonderful that you choose to share your writings with us.
    Loving you lots, Hxx

  54. Happy Birthday!! Congrats on the word accomplishment! Most of all, a deep thanks for sharing your words with us and best of luck with your writing goals for the year.

  55. Happy Belated Birthday and congratulations on reaching 1,000,000 words on your site. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. Your stories have gotten me through some dark days and each new story becomes my new favorite. I won’t thank you for getting me into to new fandoms. I still haven’t crawled out of the hole of Teen Wolf stories. 😉

  56. Belated Happy Birthday. Congratulations on passing the one million word mark – that’s just mindblowing! Whether its a 2,000 word Thursday short or 73,000 word Demons, your stories are captivating. Thank you for sharing your talents and letting us inhabit the worlds you create, if only in our minds.

  57. Happy birthday and thank you! I hope you’ll have a you’ll have a great and fulfilling 2020.

  58. Happy belated birthday! And here you are, again, giving us the presents. 🙂 Congratulations on such a brilliant and prolific year. I adore every opportunity to read your work…and read again….and once more….

  59. I’m just now getting read Demons as it’s been a bit busy. A happy belated birthday to you, may the year be one of adventure and brightness for you. Also congrats on the milestone, that is such an amazing accomplishment and I’m so happy I get to read those million words. I don’t often leave reviews cause I’m fitting in reading during an off moment here or there, but your works are by far some of my favorites. You have such a wonderful nuance and fleshing out of your worlds that I could just sink myself into them all day if I had my druthers.
Wishing you the best for your next works and the whole year through!

  60. Congrats on the million. Demons is one of my favourites of yours.

  61. Happy belated birthday and congrats on the amazing accomplishment! Stick Around/Demons is one of my favorites, no matter how many times I reread it. All of your Tony/Tony stories are. And I sincerely hope you’re able to shove aside the crap you get from too many readers because your writing/stories are one of the high points in my life and it would be a serious disaster to my daily living to not have a Jilly James story as part of it. There’s not much you write that I don’t love to read and I don’t even want to think about what a serious downer it would be if the idiots drove your hobby underground. You’re great and thanks so much for sharing your awesome talent.

  62. Hi, it’s Sunday nite (8:43pm CDT) and for some reason the only way I can access your site and various pages is if I paste the addy it like this: jillyjames.com and that works fine. If I try to just try to type the addy in on my browser – I get this (even if I do NOT add the http://) https://jillyjames.com/ and page says:

    “Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to jillyjames.com. Peer reports it experienced an internal error.

    Error code: SSL_ERROR_INTERNAL_ERROR_ALERT

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.”

don’t know what’s happening but I thought you’d like to know what’s happening

    hugs

    • Bah. I forgot to reply. You were one of the earliest messages that alerted me to the site shenanigans, and then I got so caught up in fixing it and communicating, that I forgot to reply. There’s some irony in there… too busy communicating to communicate. Thanks for the message because it was descriptive enough that it helped! Take care.

no matter where you go, there you are...
